Virtu White Meritage

2014 Napa Valley Estate Virtú

St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery is a 100% Estate Grown, sustainably farmed winery committed to producing the highest quality estate wines without compromise. Virtú, a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, offers a seamless integrity and depth found only in great wines. The wine’s name comes from the ancient Italian word for virtue which, during the Renaissance, was used to signify artistic skill. Today, it means excellence with slight overtones of purity or even saintliness.

Winemaker’s Notes

Crafted from a nearly equal blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, this excellent wine has a nose of lemon, key lime, orange blossom, anise, lemon zest and toasty notes from the French oak barrels. Showing shades of pale yellow, the avors echo the nose, along with a slice of fresh bread achieved through the in- barrel sur-lie maturation, an extended aging technique.

Vintage 2014

In 2014 we experienced a continuation of the drought in NapaValley and reduced snowpack in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Our vineyards saw the rst signi cant rainfall of the year in February, bringing a welcome soak of eight inches that helped replenish thirsty water reserves. While March gave us some additional rain, the growing season remained dry. May was warm, leading to a hot June with the heat continuing through early October at the height of harvest. Picked in the cool morning hours, the fruit was pressed and immediately chilled and settled prior to fermentation which occurred partly in tanks and in barrels.
