Telteca Winery (Mendoza, Argentina)

The word “Telteca”, meaning “ripe fruit”, takes root in the language of Mendoza’s native tribe, the Huarpe. The wise Huarpe tribe skilfully survived the rigors of this desert environment through their respect for nature and their in-depth knowledge of the flora that dominated the plains of Mendoza.

The Huarpe people lived in harmony with their surroundings as they laid the foundations of Mendoza’s first irrigation channels, presently known as “acequias”. European immigrants later refined the Huarpe’s irrigation system and adapted the channels for the cultivation of vines, allowing Mendoza to showcase its great winemaking potential to the world today.

As a symbol of our admiration and recognition of this great and ancient tribe, we named our wines “Telteca”, a tribute to the natives of Mendoza who knew the value in honouring nature.  Today, this same philosophy is what drives us, as we cultivate our vineyards to produce one of mankind’s greatest passions: wine.

Our mission is to produce Mendoza's most distinguished premium wines, by focusing on excellence at every stage of the process, from vine-growing to winemaking, and therefore to fully satisfy discerning wine lovers from the most demanding markets.

Our vision is to faithfully reflect in our wines the expression of our vineyard's land, achieving a perfect combination between what our vineyard gives us and the value our people provides.

The winery is built with a modern and functional architectural style, our winery combines state of the art technology, specific for wines of premium quality, with the oenological expertise of the top professionals.

The winery’s stainless steel tanks have a capacity of 2 million liters for fermentation and storage. Additionally, our underground concrete pools hold a capacity of 1 million liters. We also count on two climate controlled cellars, one for our French and American oak barrels and one for keeping our wines evolving in the bottle.

Terroir:
Telteca’s vineyards are located in Barrancas (Maipú, Mendoza) and La Consulta (Uco Valley, Mendoza). Both areas, known for being prime locations, have developed a reputation of producing premium vines as well as a history of receiving international recognition.

The original irrigation channels created by the Huarpes have been restored and now transport the waters from the Andes. Within the vineyards, the modern drip irrigation system produces perfectly balanced vines, with fruits of great flavour and excellent quality.

Fruit is a protagonist in our wines, which reflect the virtues of vineyard that is taken care of to exalt its optimum natural qualities. An abundance of sunny days as well as a wide range of temperatures that can reach up to 15ºC / 17ºC (59ºF/63ºF), are the source of our wines’ vivid colours, distinct aromas, complex flavours and well-structured body.

Our wines are the fruit of Mendoza’s land… they are the faithful expression of our vineyard’s terroir. The unique qualities that our land has to offer are accented in our wines.  We proudly use only own grapes for the production of our wines.

The secret to our wines is in the combination of our grape selection, our virtuous terroir and the experience of our winemaker Jose Pedro Gomez, who diligently searches to create the perfect expression of each grape variety.

From this mission for perfection, Telteca wines are born; wines with a noble fruity character, pronounced varietal expression, surprising intense aromas and vivid colours. The quality of our wines and variety of styles make Telteca an excellent choice for enjoying exciting wines from the New World.
