Hawks View Cellars Series Syrah
Grapes: 100% Syrah
Appellation: Garys’ Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands, California
Vineyard: Named for the two proprietors, Gary Pisoni and Gary Franscioni, Garys’ Vineyard has been named one of “the best new vineyards” –Wine&Spirits. Planted in 1997, the 50-acre vineyard is planted mostly in Pinot Noir, with a small section of Syrah. A marine climate with strong costal winds, and dense morning fog, allow for a long, drawn out growing season. With the combination of weather patterns and Arroyo Seco Sandy Loam soils, the vineyard is truly unique.
Aging: Aged 24 months in new and used French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: It opens with notes of crushed blueberries, cigar box, and raspberries. This wine shows its strength with a notable concentration of bramble fruits, fine tannins and an amazingly long finish.
What makes this wine special: Garys’ Vineyard is known for producing wines of impeccable balance and lushness. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks with 20% Whole Cluster. Through ferment, the Syrah was punched down twice daily, and finished in combination new and used French oak. The Syrah was tended and aged for an impressive 24 months, yielding dense color and cashmere-like texture.
